Frame measures 17 3/4" x 13 7/8", Etching measures 12" x 8". George Cruikshank (1792-1878), was a British caricaturist and book illustrator for many authors, including Charles Dickens. Believe this framed etching is an original hand colored piece from Cruikshank’s 1835 “My Sketch Book” (Volume VII, Plate 16). It is titled “Ugly Customers” and depicts six separate vignettes of his rather grotesque style of cartoon. The notation at the bottom of the print reads, “Designed, Etched & Published by George Cruikshank, 23 Myddelton Terrace, Pentonville, March 1st 1835”.
