Description

This framed, original town map shows the London skyline before the Great Fire of 1666. Note St. Paul's Cathedral depicts the Norman tower rather than the Christopher Wren dome. Printed and published in 1623, the illustrations depict the 1614 meeting of King James I and the Spanish ambassador and the signing of the Spanish Match treaty. According to this treaty, the Prince of Wales (who was King Charles I when this was printed) would marry the Spanish Infanta and receive a dowry of £500,000. In return, the English king agreed to stop pirates attacking Spanish ships carrying gold from the America and stay out of the 30 Years War. But ultimately, the marriage never took place because Parliament was opposed to a Catholic becoming Queen of England. The print is an original etching on paper and comes framed, making it the perfect addition to any art collection. The illustration depicts London in 1623, giving a glimpse into the city's rich history. Whether you're an art enthusiast or a history buff, this print is sure to impress. There are tiny rips around the edges that do NOT impact the art itself. Otherwise, in good condition. Please allow 1-2 weeks for domestic US shipping, 3 weeks for international. Thank you.
