A photo showing a female commando behind Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Parliament went viral on social media, with several users, including actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut, sharing the image.
With many speculating that the woman commando is a part of SPG (Special Protection Group), the identity of the woman officer, along with her branch of service, remains unknown.
Female commandos have been a part of the SPG’s security framework for years.
The photo in question is from Parliament, where female SPG commandos are stationed.
These commandos are typically deployed at gates for frisking female visitors and are also involved in monitoring people entering or leaving the premises.
Since 2015, women have also been included in the Close Protection Team (CPT) of the SPG.
At present, the SPG reportedly has around 100 female commandos. They serve in both close protection roles and advanced security liaison capacities.
The Special Protection Group was established in 1985 to provide close security to the Prime Minister, former prime ministers, and their immediate families. SPG officers are trained in leadership, professionalism, and close protection skills. Over the years, the SPG has adopted innovative approaches to ensure the security of protectees. The organisation collaborates with the Intelligence Bureau and state and Union Territory police forces to strengthen overall security measures.
